Happy Sunday!

We are about to start Week 6 of First Grade.  I can hardly believe it!  We've had such a great start.  I know I say it a lot but I'm telling you this class is AH-MAH-ZING!!!  They are just so much fun!

Homework for this week:

Must-Dos:
*Practice Spelling Words (you can use this week's idea or last week's idea for practice).   Again I'm just trying to build a repertoire of ways to study so you can find the one that best fits your student!  The way I suggest this week is very good for visual learners.  By tracing around the word in straight lines, they will get a picture of the word shape in their head.
*DIBS  #2.  Remember this is a way to practice the concepts we work on during Concept Board.
*Sunshine Math- This math really encourages problem solving and thinking "outside the box".

May-Dos:
*Practice the Challenge Spelling Words
*Do any of the ABC tasks
*Work on the Husky Challenge

I will be sending home a fun pumpkin project tomorrow.  I hope your family enjoys it as much as I think you will...:)

Speaking of sending things home tomorrow, I will send home all your Friday papers home, too.   I can't believe I forgot to send out all the papers...including their darling photos...ughhh.   As soon as I got back from the buses, I realized what I had done.  Again, I apologize!!!!

If you are hanging onto a magazine order, TOMORROW is the absolutely LAST day to send it in.  If each child sells one magazine, our class gets $5 per child!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   I don't think we can reach that goal but I thought I'd put it out there in case someone is intrigued by that possibility!

Also, I'd like to thank all our parent volunteers!  I'm telling you Reading Rainbow Rotations go so smoothly with another adult in the room.   The kids get an opportunity to practice their sight words and get one-on-one instruction.  It's priceless!!   So, thank you SO much!  If you are ever looking for something to do on Mondays-Thursdays from 9:30-10:20, our room is buzzing with activity and can always use extra parents!

Thank you for all of you in the fingerprint process.  I'm assuming that you are all in the process...if not, let me know.

Oh...last big thanks to our art moms!  I didn't thank Lindsey Burnett properly for the awesome Mona Lisa project.   We received many compliments about how amazing the artists in Room 108 are!   On Friday, our other awesome art mom, Brandi Smith, had the students draw beautiful birds and paint them.   We learned that Leonardo da Vinci LOVED nature!  In fact, he used to buy caged birds just so he could set them free.  If you are walking in the hall, be sure to check out our awesome art work!

The conference schedule is going around now.  We are trying to schedule sibling groups together.   I am back to back scheduled on Wednesday and Thursday from 4:00-8:30.   I will send out the schedule as soon as I can!!   I can't wait to meet with you October 26th and 27th.

Have a great week!
Carin
